If I have an hour to spare today, I would…

If you had an hour to spare today, what would you do?  Sundays are one of my favorite days, even though they start really early!  As a member of our worship band at church, I have to leave my house at 6:30 a.m. for practice.  I am not complaining, I LOVE it!  (Well, not the early alarm, but playing in the band.)

Therefore, on a typical Sunday, any spare hour that I have is devoted to my Sunday nap.  I know, how exciting, right?!  My nap is known to my family as my “Sunday appointment.”  It happens most weeks at 2:00 p.m.  I take the “day of rest” commandment pretty seriously. 🙂

So, aside from my nap, if I had another spare hour, I would like to spend it doing a Bible Journal entry for the sermon that I heard that morning.  I don’t do nearly enough Bible journaling.  My sister does this at least weekly with a group from her church.  They get together on Wednesday evening and journal something from their sermon the previous Sunday.  My journaling experience is much more sporadic.

Have you done any Bible journaling?  Please share your work with us if you have!  If you have not tried your hand at this, and you would like to, contact me and I will help get you started.  If i happen to get that spare hour today, I will be sure to share my creation with you.  You can see one of my previous Bible journal entries here.

Favorite New Stamp Sets for Bible Journaling

Choosing my favorite new stamp sets for Bible journaling was not hard.  In fact, this year I looked at my brand new Stampin’ Up! catalog with totally different eyes.  Looking through the new catalog is such an exciting experience for me.  I love to ohhh and ahhh over all the fun new stuff.  I make lists of what I absolutely have to have immediately, and what I really want but can’t afford just yet.  I look at all the new projects others are posting and my lists just get longer.

This year, even the first time glancing through, I was noticing the new stamp sets that I wanted to use in my journal Bible.  I have ordered a few of them and they are arriving at my house this week, so you should be able to see how I have used them personally VERY soon.  In the meantime, I will share the ones that stood out to me.

Labeler  Alphabet

I have shopped for letter stickers like these and not had much success.  You can imagine how excited I was to see this item in the new catalog.  I can stamp these in any color I want.  I can spell words with LOTS of vowels and not worry about running out.  And, because it is a photopolymer stamp set, I will be able to line my letters up easily to spell any words I choose.  This was a MUST HAVE for my Bible Journal!  As a bonus, I can create totally personalized and unique cards or gift tags with this alphabet too.  Its definitely a WIN WIN situation.

Wherever You Go

This bridge just screamed BIBLE JOURNAL to me the first time I saw it.  Something about not being able to see the beginning or the end seems almost poetic to me.  The fact that it is paired with a bird in flight, a beautiful compass and that great sunrise/sunset stamp, just adds to the value I see in using this to illustrate my faith.  {LOVE}

Best Birds Bundle

I really love bird images and these are some sweet little birds.  The fact that I can easily cut them out with a coordinating framelit makes them almost irresistible!  This set will definitely be used in my Bible and for many beautiful cards too!

Falling Flowers Bundle

I mainly am drawn to this set because of that awesome flourish image.  I can see that working well on several different types of Bible pages.  Of course, flowers are always good too and can be used for lots of different things.  I like the variety of flowers and the variety of flower sizes in this set.  Once again, having a coordinating framelit to cut these out easily is definitely a selling point!

Do you have any new favorite stamp sets for Bible journaling?  If so, I would love to hear which ones you will be using.

If you are interested in Bible Journaling, but have no idea where to start, you can join us at a gathering on Tuesday, June 28.  We’ll be getting together to work on our pages and maybe try out some new tools or techniques.  There is no cost to participate and you do NOT have to have a journal Bible to attend.  We have some sample pages you can practice on and plenty of supplies to try out.  If you’d like more information, please leave a comment below!

More Bible Journaling

I thought I would share more Bible Journaling with you today.  I just love this aspect of Bible study and worship.  Bringing my artistic side into the equation is so much fun!  The page I am sharing today was sketched out in my practice journal months before I ever put it on the actual Bible page.

More Bible Journaling

It is inspired, of course, by the song from Third Day titled “Soul on Fire.”  A while back I went through a spell where I listened to this song all the time.  That’s when I first designed the page.  As you can see, it just made it into the book of Jeremiah last week.  Here’s how the NLT words this verse…

“But if I say I’ll never mention the LORD or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire.           It’s like a fire in my bones!  I am worn out trying to hold it in!  I can’t do it!”       Jeremiah 20:9

Don’t you want a soul on fire too?  I want my life to burn so brightly for Christ that there is NO WAY others will miss it when they look at me.  I want that fire to rage wildly so that it cannot be contained!

Sharing my Bible Journaling is just one way that I can burn for him.  Maybe my pages will ignite a  fire for the Lord in someone else too.  I will keep sharing this journey with  you.  Please share this page with others that you think might be interested.  I had a blast this week teaching others the first steps to Bible Journaling.  If you have questions about how to get started, I would love to answer them for you.  We will be having another class next month so if you want to join in let me know!

One Time Valentine Day Special

I am so excited about our One Time Valentine Day Special!  Since this holiday is all about LOVE, I wanted to share a special with you that involves something I love so very much.

As a young wife and mother I gave up my career as a Physical Therapist and was promoted to full time mom.  During this season a friend of mine invited me to a Beth Moore Bible study.  Now I had been involved in church all my life, saved as a young child and I was married to a pastor, but I had never experienced the Bible like I did during that study of David.  I fell so completely in love with God’s word and I have never gotten over it. Through the years this love affair with God’s word has taken on many different forms. Not only Bible study, but Scripture memorization, and Scripture art became my passions.

Fast forward to 2015 when I first became aware of Bible journaling from an art perspective. I was so completely taken by this idea from the beginning. It was like a culmination of things that I already loved so much. My sister and I traveled to St. Louis to attend a conference put on by Shanna Noel from Illustrated Faith and it was there that I applied paint to my Bible for the very first time. You can read about that here.

I learned so much at that conference and since. I am excited to share what I have learned with you. Please join me for an evening of fun and fellowship as we explore Bible Journaling together. This is definitely the class for you if you are interested in Bible Journaling but have no idea how to get started! But it is also for you if you are already illustrating your faith and want to explore new things and share what you know with others. Maybe you aren’t a fan and you don’t want to paint in your Bible. Believe it or not, this class is also for you. There are so many options in illustrating your faith and I want to explore those with you too.

So, for our Valentine Day Special I am offering this gathering for FREE for only 24 hours. You can come, learn, create, explore. I will have plenty of supplies for everyone to play with. Don’t worry if you do not have a Journal Bible, I will help you figure out which one will be best for you. After today, I am going to charge a small supply fee for this class, but for TODAY it is free. All you have to do is respond TODAY to let me know you want to attend. Don’t forget, because after 24 hours it will cost you! 🙂
