Count your blessings…not your problems

Count your blessings…not your problems

This weekend we had the privilege of moving our son to his first apartment.  He is stepping out into this great big world on his own…381 miles from home.  It would be easy for me to let fear and worry plague my mind.  I am a worrier from way back.  But Scripture tells me that God has not given us a spirit of timidity.  So, I am choosing faith over fear.  I am counting my blessings…not my problems.

Here is my list for today…

  1. My family is healthy
  2. Kansas City is in driving distance.
  3. God is in control.

This is the Valentine card I mailed to him before I left KC…

Count your blessings...not your problems

It should arrive in just a day or two.  Don’t you just love that little chameleon?! It is from the January Paper Pumpkin stamp set.   I hope he enjoys the bad pun also. 😉

In case you are wondering, the Paper Pumpkin is a monthly subscription that delivers a box of paper craft supplies directly to your mailbox.  Sometimes they are card projects, sometimes they are gift boxes or other items.  Either way, they are ALWAYS cute and come with a stamp set and at least one ink spot (a little one-inch ink pad).  Typically they deliver holiday themed kits a month prior, so I got the Valentine kit in January.  It is a great bargain and you get a little crafting happiness in. your mailbox every month, definitely one of those blessings you should be counting!  I’ll post pictures of the actual kit items when I get them made this week, so check back to see how cute they are!

So, remember, count those blessings this week, no matter what!  Don’t let ANY problems take the focus from the good things in your life.  And give someone a Valentine card…or lots of people!  Share your paper crafting skills and bring a smile to someone’s day.  That way, they will have an extra blessing to count too.  🙂

Traditional Valentine Card

Do you prefer traditional Valentine cards?  Maybe you’d rather have something humorous?  Recently I have been creating several different types of Valentine cards, but the other day I just had an urge to create something with as many traditional Valentine details as possible, except the colors…I did not want to use red in my card.

The Lace Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder was perfect touch for this card.  It is so frilly and feminine looking!  The Colored Doilies helped me determine my color combination.  I think the Flirty Flamingo doily with Coastal Cabana give this card a nice retro feel.

The stamped images are from the First Frost stamp set that is carried over from the Holiday Catalog.  I used the coordinating die to cut the flowers.  The sentiment is stamped from the Detailed With Love stamp set.  I hope you will find inspiration from this card and try out  this traditional Valentine card.

Party Pandas Valentine Card

This Party Pandas Valentine card is one of the first projects I made with the Party Pandas Sale-A-Bration stamp set.  I love that these stamps are so versatile.  I can make Valentine cards, birthday cards for kids or for adults, cards to say “hi” to my friends and family, even Christmas cards!  Here’s a look at the Party Pandas stamp set…

Party Pandas Valentine Card We will be sharing projects made with this set all week, including some 3d items.   Now here’s a look at our Party Pandas Valentine card.

Party Pandas Valentine Card

I used a retired embossing folder to create that wonderful heart background.  Embossing folders are one of my favorite Stampin’ Up! products.  For one thing, they aren’t expensive, that’s always a plus for me.  Also, they are easy to use and for very little effort add wonderful details to a project.  These hearts are a perfect touch to my little panda on this card.

Last week we shared project ideas using another Sale-A-Bration stamp set, Epic celebrations.  You can check out this set here.

Hopefully our posts will help you decide which of the Sale-A-Bration stamp sets you want to own.  Remember, the only way to get them is to earn them FREE during Sale-A-Bration!

I want to hear from you!  If you have seen the Sale-A-Bration stamp sets, let me know which is your favorite by leaving a comment.  Or maybe you’re undecided and want to see more projects from a certain set, leave a comment about that too and I will try to post projects made with that product.

Hershey Bar Valentine

A Hershey Bar Valentine is a great way to spread some love this Valentine’s day! These Valentine treats are easy to make, so if you need to do several it won’t take long. They are great to share with co-workers, classmates, teachers, friends, etc.

Hershey Bar Valentine!

One little note about working with chocolate – It is not recommended to attach anything directly to the wrapper using tape.  Some claim that this can affect the taste of the chocolate.  I have never had a problem with that, but thought I would pass the info on to you.  Using the technique shown in the video, it is easy to secure the paper wrapper without actually taping it to the chocolate bar.

Bonus Idea!

You can make mini versions of this using Hershey miniatures.  They look so cute wrapped in colorful Designer Series Paper!  Sit a bowl on your desk to share with clients or coworkers, or put them in little cellophane bags and pass them out to your kids’ teachers.  Chocolate is always a good gift, no matter the size!  The ONLY Hershey miniature I could find to illustrate this, happens to be a Kit Kat bar.  And since my Denver Broncos WON Super Bowl 50 last night, I decided to decorate it for Valentine’s day in Blue and Orange.

I love making little treats like this to share with others.  I’ll be sharing different Valentine ideas all week, so come back tomorrow and see what’s new.  I will tell you in advance that no animals were harmed in the making of tomorrow’s project! 🙂  If you liked this video please leave a comment and feel free to share the Hershey Bar Valentine video with your friends!

Quick and Easy Valentine Ideas

Quick and easy Valentine ideas are just what we need with only a couple of days left to prepare.  The 2 ideas I have chosen for today are simple to put together and don’t require a lot of supplies.  These would be great to take to your coworkers, send to teachers or even give to your hubby (which is where the peanut butter cups are going).

Let’s take a look at the first project….

Sour Cream Container

quick and easy valentine ideas

These are easy to make and you can whip out a lot in a short time.  To create this container you simply take a square of Designer Series Paper and glue it in a tube shape.  Then glue the ends of the tube closed, pinching one end closed from front to back and the other end closed from side to side.  Be sure to add your treat inside before sealing it!  My example was made with a 4 X 4 square.  I put a couple of miniature chocolate bars inside.  You can use larger or smaller squares and make this in whatever size you need to hold your goodie.  I embellished my quick and easy Valentine with a stamped greeting and some rhinestones.  It is headed to Indiana to my daughter. 🙂

Another quick and easy Valentine idea is to grab some cellophane bags, fill them with a treat and make a simple topper for the bag.  Here’s my sample…

Cello Bag with Topper

Quick and easy valentine ideas

To add a greeting I simply punched a heart and hand lettered a sentiment.  This topper is stapled closed, but I used the punched heart to hide my staple.  My husband loves this candy and so this will go to him on Friday.

These are just a couple of quick and easy Valentine ideas.  If you have some other suggestions please share them in a comment.  Please share this information on Facebook or Twitter if you think your friends might also want some tips for fast treats.

At the bottom of this post you will find a link to the pdf file that shows which of the stamp sets from the Holiday catalog are being carried over to the next catalog period.  Remember, if it isn’t on this list, then you only have one more day to order it!  There are several accessories that were very popular and are being carried over to the Occasions Mini Catalog. That catalog will go active on Jan. 3.  These accessories include:  Silver 1/8″  Ribbon, Silver and Gold Foil Cardstock, Chevron Border Punch, Label Bracket Punch, Gold and Silver Metallic Encore Stamp Pads, Gold and Silver Stampin’ Glitter, Envelope Liners Framelits Dies, Decorative Window Gift Boxes, Mini Muslin Bags, White Stampin’ Chalk Marker, and the 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon.

Once again, if it isn’t on that list or included in the pdf below, then you only have one more day to order!
