Our minds are such wonderful, complex things. It’s amazing how much information we can store and recall. Sometimes you don’t even know that you have a memory stored there, and then an unexpected smell or sound will bring it back to you.
When I was working on a recent project I had an experience like this. I was trying to figure out what colors I wanted to use on my card. I experimented with different ones and finally decided on this.
When I saw it though, it reminded me of being a Brownie when I was very young. Brownies are a part of the Girl Scout organization for younger girls, about 7-9 years old. I remembered having a brown uniform, and I thought it was dark brown, so I wondered why this particular card brought that memory to mind. I googled a Brownie uniform from the 1970s, and this is what I found…
No wonder that color combination reminded me of this! I was surprised that the dress was a lighter brown, but my brain already had that information, weird…and remarkable! It reminds me of Psalm 139:14 that says, “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous — how well I know it.”
Here’s my finished card. It turned out to be a great fall birthday card. If you are on our mailing list, you received instructions for this card already. If you aren’t on our mailing list, you can sign up using the form on this page. We send inspirational projects to your inbox every week!
