I am often asked how to find inspiration, especially for color combinations. Honestly, this is one problem that you can let others solve for you. Look for pleasing color combinations as you shop, in person or online. Cute packaging, pretty fabrics or rugs—-all of these can inspire you. My favorite, however, is finding inspiration in nature.
My husband and I frequently play disc golf together. You play the sport outdoors, and often in a wooded setting. I enjoy taking pictures along the way as much as I enjoy playing the game. Yesterday a stick inspired me and I took the picture you see below.
The variety of color is what caught my attention, and I wanted to recreate those colors on a card! How do you think I did?
This result pleased me so much! It’s fun to see something like a stick and then translate that into a card that will make someone smile.
There are plenty of other sources you can use to come up with color combos. Check out the label for our Designer Series Paper packs. They list all the colors used in that package of paper, and you can choose your colors based on that. Also check out pages 132 and 133 of our current 2024-25 Annual Catalog. It has a color wheel of Stampin’ Up colors and some good information on different types of color combinations and how to choose them using the color wheel. (Check out this post where I ‘accidentally’ chose complimentary colors for my card. 🤭)
Inspiration is everywhere! Take a walk outside and capture some inspirational pictures, or grab your Annual Catalog and choose a new color combination from the color wheel. I would love to see the fun things you create!
