The Stampin Up Owl Punch is an incredibly versatile addition to your craft collection.   Seriously, you could choose any holiday through the year and we could come up with some way to use the owl punch to make a card for it.  This year I made a Halloween card using the Stampin Up Owl Punch, and the reason I did so is kind of sad.  :'(

It all started with this CUTE scarf….

I bought this scarf early in October.  I was out shopping for some sunglasses and saw this on sale for $4.99.   You can’t tell from the picture, but it is made with really soft material along with being so stinkin’ cute!  I picked it up to send it to my daughter (who lives 6 hours away) for a little “surprise, I love you, thinking of you” kind of gift.  I intended to mail it that week so she could wear it throughout the month.  On Friday I found it still at my house and there was no reasonable way to get it to her for today.  Boo hoo!  In my despair I went to my studio and created a card inspired by the scarf.

Stampin Up Owl Punch Card

I just love the Stampin Up Owl Punch!  This little “ghost” is adorable and he wasn’t hard to make.  Here’s how I made his costume…

First I cut a rectangle of white cardstock that was a tad wider than an owl punched.  It needs to be about 1 3/16″ wide.

Next, I used the large oval punch to cut the rounded shape to go over his head.  You can tell from the picture how I inserted the paper in the punch from the bottom so that only one end of my rectangle was being rounded.  You could also do this with an oval framelit, but you would insert it in the framelit just like this punch, where only one end was being cut.

Take your owl shape and place it over your punched piece so you can mark how long your costume needs to be.

Then, insert this piece into the scallop oval punch the same way you did the oval punch.  You only want to cut the bottom edge of the costume.  Use your pencil mark to make sure your costume is the right length.

This is how the costume should look on the owl shape before you embellish with the facial details.

Honestly, the face was the most difficult part of this card because you’re working with smaller punched paper pieces, but if you had some googly eyes on hand you could completely eliminate this step and glue those babies on instead.
