Today my baby turns 20. I cannot believe how the time has flown. Here is a picture of Andrew and Christina on the day he was born….
And this is my “baby” in 2013…
He is becoming a wonderful man of God and I am so very proud to be his mom. He is funny and smart and talented. He loves life and singing and the Lord. He is also an artist. Which sometimes presents a problem for me. You see, I am crafty. I like to make things and give them away. I enjoy teaching others to be crafty too. I choose what to put on a project by what I think looks good. I don’t put a lot of thought into the technicalities. But he does. He will explain color theory to me to show me why I thought that looked good. He thinks of minute details that seem to escape me. He always gives me an honest and critical (not in a bad way) answer when I ask what he thinks of something I have made.
For his birthday he asked me to alter a graph paper composition notebook for him. He wanted something “vintage collage.” I tried to think outside of my little craft box for him…to make it more “art” than “craft”, if you know what I mean. I knew he would be carrying it around campus and didn’t want him to have to stuff it in his backpack when his other art major friends walked up. 🙂 But I didn’t have much time either, because he asked the day before he moved back into the dorm.
Here is the finished product…
I am mostly pleased with the results, but you know that doesn’t really matter. What he thinks of it is what matters. We’ll see. I am in Indiana for his birthday, moving my daughter off to grad school. We took him a ‘party in a box’ . It included some gifts, cupcakes, balloons, and other miscellaneous party items. I know the Lord is going to fill his day with amazingness even if I’m not there to share it with him.
Happy birthday son!
