Yesterday was Dr. Seuss Day.  I didn’t realize that fact yesterday, but I did have a conversation with my friend about books we used to read to our kids when they were little.  Our daughter’s favorite book was “Watch Your Step Mr. Rabbit” by Richard Scarry.

I know we read that book hundreds of times.  We all had every line of every page memorized.  She still loves reading as much as she did when she was a little girl.

When I was a kid my favorite books were the Boxcar Children books and Nancy Drew mysteries.

My mom took us to the public library all the time to find new books to read.  We would spend hours walking among those shelves of books choosing just the right one.

I am thankful that I have kids who still love to read and that I have a mom who helped instill a love of reading in me as well.  Reminiscing about all of this has given me an idea for Mother’s day.  I think I will begin now making a list of things like this that I am thankful that my Mom did for me and include it with her Mother’s Day card/gift this year.  Maybe I will even choose a small gift that relates to each of the items on my list.  Of course, my first gift is going to have to be a book… 🙂

Maybe you would like to join me in this gratitude list.  What a nice way to honor our Mom’s on Mother’s Day (or our Dad’s on Father’s Day).  If you have ideas of items you will include in your list, please share them in the comments section.  Your creative ideas may help spark creativity in someone else too!
